Production

Production Overview

Toyota's cumulative worldwide motor vehicle production since the start of production of the G1 Truck in 1935 prior to the establishment of Toyota Motor Co. Ltd., through the end of 2011, is approximately 195.7 million vehicles. Production, particularly in Japan, expanded rapidly during motorization in the 1960s, and Toyota created many new production bases. Later, when production at New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) in the United States started in 1984, local production made dramatic advances. The IMV Project* was launched in 2004, and in 2007 the overseas production volume exceeded production in Japan. Based on the principles of contributing to society through automobile manufacturing and manufacturing products where the demand exists, Toyota has conducted production in 27 countries and regions as of the end of 2011.

The IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) Project produces three pickup trucks based on the Hilux, the Fortuner sport utility vehicle, and the Innova minivan in Asia, South Africa, and South America for supply to more than 140 countries around the world. Production began in August 2004 in Thailand and Indonesia.
