July 1982: Following the Merger of Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd.

Launch of the New Toyota Motor Corporation

In order to maximize the benefits of the merger of Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd., all management resources-including personnel, information, technology, and capital-were consolidated to build a resilient corporate structure as soon as possible and launch a new Toyota that can make the best use of those resources.

The new organization created in conjunction with the merger emphasized greater operational efficiency and faster decision-making. A total of eight functional groups were established: Corporate Staff and Operations Group, Purchasing Group, Domestic Sales Operations Group, Overseas Operations Group, Technology and Production Engineering Group, Transportation Group, Plants, and Domestic Offices and Others.

In addition, a Customer Relations Department was also established at the time of the creation of the new Toyota in order to put the founding principle, 'Customer First', into practice.
