Toyota's second car bearing the WiLL brand name featured a body design that was as novel and unique as its predecessor Vi, with the aim of appealing to younger customers in their 20s and 30s. The platform derived from the Corolla was larger than that of the Vi, on which a stylish 5-door hatchback body inspired by the Stealth Fighter aircraft was mounted. A choice of two inline 4-cylinder, 1.8-liter engines (1ZZ-FE and 2ZZ-GE) was offered. In addition to the 4-speed Super ECT automatic transmission system, the sports steer shiftmatic mechanism (featuring manual gear shift buttons on the steering wheel) was made available for the 2ZZ-GE engine model. Several variations were added in January 2002, including a 1.5-liter engine model, a 6-speed manual transmission model, and a special limited edition offered only on the Web.
