In September 1978, a line of trucks was added to the Townace, offering high- and low-bed models as well as a "just-low" model, which further lowered the bed floor by employing radial tires (their actual diameter was smaller than that of bias-ply tires even though the rim size was the same at 13 inches). Each of the three models offered standard- and long-deck versions. The initial engine was a 1.6-liter unit (12R-J), which was replaced with a 1.8-liter unit (13T-U) in fall 1979 to comply with the 1978 emission standards. At the same time, the just-low model adopted 10-inch double tires for the rear wheels, lowering the bed floor to the same level as that of light trucks.
