The fifth-generation Toyoace was launched in August 1985, with payload capacities ranging from one to 3.5 tons. The model variety was widened by using the Dyna redesigned in September 1984 as its base model, and by integrating smaller Hiace and Toyoace models as well. The existing 1-ton Toyoace was discontinued, adopting the Hiace truck instead as the only 1-ton model in the lineup. The Toyoace also acquired 2-, 2.75-, 3-, and 3.5-ton models. The 2-ton model offered the "full just low" version with small diameter radial tires to lower the floor for easier entry and exit. The engine lineup of the Toyoace included 1.6- and 2-liter gasoline units, a new 2-liter liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) unit, and five diesels including 2.45-liter, 3.0-liter, 3.4-liter, 3.4-liter turbo, and 4.0-liter units.
