Fully remodeled in May 1995 along with the sedan, the eighth-generation Corolla Levin notchback coupé inherited many of the components from its predecessors (Levin and Trueno), while reducing the vehicle weight by as much as 70 kg.

The supercharged engine was dropped from the lineup, and a naturally aspirated 165 PS 4A-G engine took its place. Also, 1.6- and 1.5-liter "high-mecha" twin-cam engines (developing 115 PS and 100 PS, respectively) were available. These engines were coupled with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission, and a high grade model with the 4A-G engine offered an optional package of Super Strut suspension and helical limited slip differential (LSD).

Due to the decline in the domestic specialty car market, the Levin was discontinued after the eighth-generation model.

A "corolla" is the ring of petals around the central part of a flower. "Levin" is a poetic word for "lightning."
