The avant-garde spindle-shaped body adopted by the fourth-generation Crown looked more attractive on a 2-door hardtop released in February 1971 than on a sedan. Like the sedan, the hardtop model also had a facelift in 1973. Among the Crown hardtop models, the sportiest was the SL, which featured a 1,988cc 6-cylinder SOHC 130 PS (125 PS with regular specs) Type M-B engine with twin SU carburetors.
