The fifth-generation Crown that made its debut in October 1974 departed from the previous model's innovative styling and reverted to conservatism. With this changeover, the Crown Custom station wagon, released in November 1974, offered a choice of 2.6-liter engine (4M) in addition to the existing 2-liter 6-cylinder engine. The available transmissions for the 2-liter model included a 3-speed manual with a column shifter and 3- or 4-speed manual with a floor shifter, whereas the 2.6-liter model came with a 3-speed manual transmission with a column shifter.
