In October 1996, a convertible version was added to the second-generation Cynos. The convertible came with a manually operated soft top manufactured by an American specialist firm ASC (American Sunroof Corporation), the company that also helped with the Celica convertible. The seat configuration was two in the front and two auxiliarly seats in the rear (2+2). The choice of power units was the same as the coupé, namely, 1,300 cc and 1,500 cc inline 4-cylinder units, to which a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission was combined. The affordable convertible was well received in the market.
Plant Takaoka plant, American Sunroof Corporation
Comes from the English word "cynosure," which means someone or something that is the center of attention.
