The second-generation Noah was placed on the market in June 2007 through the Toyota Corolla channel, simultaneously with the redesigned sister car Voxy which was released through the Netz channel. Retaining the basic features of the popular first-generation model that sold around 800,000 units, the new model further improved the ride comfort, utility, and environmental performance.

A new 2-liter engine (3ZR-FAE) was made available with selected model grades, featuring the valvematic system -- a mechanism that continuously adjusts intake valve lifts to control the engine speed while keeping the throttle valves fully open, enabling better response, driving performance, and fuel economy. While both the standard 2-liter engine (3ZR-FE) and the valvematic versions were coupled with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the valvematic models used a 7-speed sports sequential shiftmatic transmission with paddle shifters. The third-row seats could be lifted and folded away with a single touch, and the second-row seats could be rotated to facilitate buckling and unbuckling of children into child restraint systems.

In a minor remodeling in April 2010, all models were standard-equipped with a valvematic engine and a 7-speed sports sequential shiftmatic transmission.

"Noah" was chosen purely for its soothing sound, and no biblical reference was intended.
