The seventh-generation Sprinter sedan released in June 1991 was joined by a remodeled Sprinter van and the first Sprinter wagon in September 1991. These were sister cars of the Corolla van and wagon, and there were few differences between these pairs in terms of external and internal designs.

The engine lineup of the van consisted of 1.3-liter (2E) and 1.5-liter (3E) gasoline-powered units and a 2-liter diesel (2C) unit, while that of the wagon included a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a 2-liter diesel. A full-time diesel powered 4-wheel-drive version was available for both van and wagon models.

Sales of the Sprinter van and wagon were discontinued in July 2002.
