The Voxy entered the second generation in June 2007 together with its twin, the Noah. Inheriting from its predecessor the concept of a minivan for family-use, the Voxy also introduced to its ZS grade model a new 2-liter valvematic engine that was specifically developed to improve fuel efficiency. In addition to the VVT-i system for continuously changing the timing to open and close the intake valves, the engine also employed a dynamic valve mechanism for continuously adjusting valve lifts. This meant that the volume of air intake was adjusted by the lift of the intake valves rather than by the opening and closing of the throttle valves. By continuously optimizing the lift volume and the timing to open and close the intake valves, the engine could simultaneously deliver low fuel consumption and excellent driving performance.

Practical features of the Voxy included the third-row seats that could be lifted and folded away with a single touch, the second-row seats that could be rotated to facilitate buckling and unbuckling of children into child restraint systems, as well as low steps and handgrips to facilitate boarding and exiting.

The name starts with the Latin word for "voice" (vox), and the Y at the end suggests the car's "boxy" shape, giving the vehicle eloquent appeal to young customers.
