As the Lexus brand was inaugurated in Japan in August 2005, the fourth-generation Soarer that had been on the market since April 2001 was turned into the Lexus-brand coupé SC. (The Toyota Soarer was discontinued simultaneously). Its full model name was the Lexus SC 430, because the standard engine was a 4.3-liter V8 unit (3UZ-FE), although some export models featured an engine with a smaller displacement. The transmission was a 6-speed automatic.

Production of the Lexus SC 430 was discontinued at the end of July 2010.
