"LS" stands for "Luxury Sedan."
The model name LS 460 partly derived from the displacement of its 4.6-liter V8 32-valve engine (1UR-FSE). The output was 283 kW (385 PS) for the rear-wheel-drive model, and 270 kW (367 PS) for the all-wheel-drive model that joined the lineup in August 2008. The LS was the first production passenger car in the world that adopted an 8-speed sequential shift automatic transmission. Although the wheelbase of the standard LS 460 was 2,970 mm, a long wheelbase version (LS 460L, 3,090 mm) was added in August 2008 to further improve the ride comfort of rear passengers.
The LS 460 won the 2006-2007 Car of the Year Japan.
