The Mark II van entered the fourth generation in November 1980. With this remodeling, its engine lineup came to include a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder diesel unit (Type L) in addition to a 1.8-liter gasoline engine (13T-J). As with the previous generation, the van offered three model grades: GL, Deluxe, and Standard. The diesel engine option was only available with the Deluxe grade. The column shifter option was dropped in the fourth-generation. The gasoline engine models came with either a 4-speed manual or a 3-speed automatic transmission, and the diesel model was coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. While the sedan line used a coil spring rear suspension, the van succeeded the rigid axle leaf spring rear suspension from its predecessor. With the rear seatback stowed, the length and width of the luggage room were 1,720 mm (1,020 mm with the seatback pulled up) and 1,370 mm (1,365 mm, ditto), respectively, and the payload capacity was 400 kg (250 kg, ditto) for the GL grade, and 500 kg (300 kg, ditto) for the Deluxe and Standard grades.

The various meanings of "Mark" are the same as in English (target, grade, fame). "Corona Mark II" can be taken to mean that the car is both "the second-generation model" and "an upgraded version" of the Corona.
