The second-generation Passo was released in February 2010. Like its predecessor, the new model was developed jointly with Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. Maintaining the image of its successful predecessor, the second-generation Passo was designed with female users in mind. The body size remained virtually unchanged, as the platform was the same as that of the first model. Care was taken not to obstruct the driver's view, and the front pillars were redesigned accordingly. The ease of driving was enhanced with a reverse-linked side-view mirror on the front-passenger side and the rearview monitor (available on selected models).

The 3-cylinder 1-liter engine remained unchanged, while the 1.3-liter engine was upgraded to a new Dual VVT-i unit (1NR-FE), and all models employed a CVT transmission to enhance fuel efficiency. To improve safety, the vehicle stability control (VSC) and traction control (TRC) systems were offered as options. The vehicle came in two model styles: the standard Passo and the Passo + Hana. The latter featured specially designed parts, including the front bumper, side mirrors, and rear combination lamps, as an expression of its high quality. The Passo + Hana also came with a front bench seat.

"Passo" is Italian for "step." The name conjures up the image of a casual and approachable car.
