In a minor changeover of the Model SG, the Model SK with a payload capacity of one ton went into production in August 1953. It was joined in October by the Model RK, which came with a 1.5-liter Type R engine and a payload capacity of 1.25 tons. As the specifications for small cars were relaxed and the maximum engine displacement for the category was increased to 1.5 liters, the Type R engine was developed specifically for this class of vehicles. The Type R, a water-cooled inline OHV 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1,453 cc and an output of 48 hp, was also to be fitted to the first-generation Crown in 1955. The 1-ton Model SK truck was discontinued in September 1954, whereas the RK went through a minor makeover in March 1955 to become a 1.5-tonner, changing the front grille design to more conventional one with a single opening.

From this generation onward, the Toyopet truck line (later to be renamed the Stout) was to inherit the *K subname.
