As the vehicle categories were revised in 1953 and the maximum engine displacement for small cars was raised from 1 liter to 1.5 liters, Toyota released the Toyopet Super (Model RH) in October with a 1.5-liter Type R engine. Earlier in July, however, Toyota had released the Model SH, fitting the existing 1-liter Type S engine onto the new Type H chassis. Approximately 230 units of the SH were manufactured in all. The coachwork was consigned to external firms, with Shin Mitsubishi Heavy Industries building the Type RHN body, and Kanto Auto Works producing the Type RHK body.
