Connecting cars and the community

Homes, offices, stores, and factories in your community will link together via the cloud. Working together, we can create a low-carbon society.

New benefits from Toyota’s vehicles.
Efficient energy management at home.

Efficient energy management

Drawing on its experience using hybrid car technology to change the world, Toyota proposes a new Eco-Life for everyone based on the benefits of new Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles (PHVs).

HEMS

Powering your home:
four days at a time

Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) was developed to share electricity between vehicles with batteries like the PHV and your home. Using HEMS, you will be able to charge your vehicle with solar or at off-peak hours like late at night, then supply power to your home using your car during peak hours, allowing for more efficient energy use. Further, the Toyota PHV can supply enough energy on one tank of gas using your engine to power a standard home for around 4 days (40kWh).

Manage power use from your smartphone

Wherever, whenever.
Manage power use from your smartphone

Manage your home’s energy use in real-time using your smartphone. No matter where you are, you can check the charge on your PHV’s battery, turn on and off your heating and air-conditioning, and easily check how much energy your home is using or producing from its solar panels. With this information, you can plan ahead for a waste-free Eco-Life.

EDMS

An environmental life: connect your car with your town

Efficient energy use isn’t just something that happens at home, but across entire towns. The Energy Data Management System uses a cloud server to gather energy consumption data from factories, schools, offices and homes. It then gives back advice on how to use energy in the most efficient way. This system allows facilities with extra capacity to send electricity to buildings that need more. In the event of disasters, energy can be precisely used where it’s most needed.

Eco-Towns

Toyota Eco-Towns
across the world

Toyota is testing and proving the Eco-Town concept across the world, starting in Japan's Toyota City and Rokkasho-mura but also as far afield as Indianapolis City, USA. These test locations are helping us advance quickly toward a future where we can rely on wind, solar, and other natural energy sources to power our homes and cars. Based on these developments, we can expect more efficient energy use and less CO2 output in the near future.
