Toyota Motor North America, Inc (TMA)
Since 1991, TMA (Toyota Motor North America) has helped the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) develop model programs throughout the country, resulting in the establishment of the Toyota Family Literacy Program (TFLP), a literacy initiative focused on Hispanic and other immigrant families. A leader in promoting family literacy, NCFL creates educational and economic opportunity for America's children and their parents, focusing on the communities where attention to literacy is most desperately needed. The programs are based on the concept that by increasing the literacy of the parent, you will also increase the capacity of the child.
Parents who take part in the TFLP study various subjects while their children are in regular classes. The program sets aside special times for the parents and children to work together in the children's classrooms. This allows parents to become more comfortable with the school environment and more confident of supporting their children's learning.
In year 2011, NCFL and Toyota celebrated a 20-year partnership.
Today, this partnership with NCFL accounts for 256 family literacy sites in 50 cities and 30 states.
