September 1992: Technical Division Center System Introduced

An Organization That Can Anticipate the Times and Respond Flexibly

With the rapid increase in vehicles series, the number of redesigns for the Japanese market reached about 10 models a year in the late 1980s to early 1990s. As a result, increasing the efficiency of product development and reducing development lead times became an important issue.

Organizational reforms for product development and technology development divisions were considered, and the investigations were conducted under activities known as 'FP21' that were launched in April 1990.

As a result, the problem of rising vehicle development inefficiency as the power of functionally-centered organizations increased became apparent, and major organizational reforms were conducted by switching to a product-centered development center system.
