The Crown entered the seventh generation with a model change in August 1983, with the van and the station wagon expanding their model variations. The van came with either a 2-liter 6-cylinder engine (1G-FJ) or a 2.4-liter diesel engine (2L), and the station wagon offered a choice between a 2-liter SOHC (1G-EU) engine and 2.4-liter turbo diesel units (2L-T/2L-TE).

The van offered Super Deluxe, Deluxe, and Standard grades, while the station wagon offered Super Deluxe and Super Saloon grades. The roof of the selected station wagons was raised a notch higher from the center pillar section to the rear of the vehicle, with a skylight window at the front of the raised roof.
