Comes from the Latin word "supra" ("transcending" or "above").
The engine could be chosen from four varieties of inline 6-cylinder units, including a 3-liter DOHC turbocharged 7M-GTE engine producing 230 PS. The chassis came with a full-fledged 4-wheel double wishbone suspension that was last employed with the Toyota 2000GT. In June 1986, an aerotop model featuring a detachable front roof was added to the line. In January 1987, the 3.0-liter turbo limited model was released, featuring a wide body with blister fenders that had only been available with overseas models till then.
