The Mark II wagon and van entered the fourth generation in November 1980, one month after the sedan's renewal. Starting with this model generation, the engine lineup for the wagon that used to consist solely of 4-cylinder units came to include 6-cylinder units as well, introducing a newly developed 2-liter EFI engine (1G-EU) combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The rear suspension was the same 4-link coil spring system that was used with the sedan line. The available model grade was limited to LE, which came with a rich array of equipment.
Plant Motomachi plant, Kanto Auto Works,Ltd.
The various meanings of "Mark" are the same as in English (target, grade, fame). "Corona Mark II" can be taken to mean that the car is both "the second-generation model" and "an upgraded version" of the Corona.
