The seventh-generation Toyoace went on sale in May 1999. Only the diesel models with payload capacities of 1.75-3.5 tons were redesigned, and a 4-ton model was newly added.

In developing this model, special attention was paid to issues including logistic efficiency, economy, safety (e.g., standard equipment of the anti-lock braking system on all models), environmental performance, as well as enhancement of driver's comfort and fatigue mitigation. Five newly developed diesel engines were made available for this model generation, enhancing fuel economy and driving performance. In September 2002, a low-emission model was introduced that qualified as a low-emission vehicle in seven prefectures and municipalities in the Kanto region and six in the Kansai region. From then on, the emission cleaning device came to be extensively adopted in other models as well. A 2.7-liter gasoline engine and 2.7- and 4.1-liter LPG engines were made available in May 2000. In June 2001, the models with payload capacities of 1-1.5 tons were also renewed, adopting the same basic design as that of larger models.

The seventh-generation Toyoace became a long seller, and is still in production as of 2011. During its model life, the Toyoace has responded to increasingly stringent emission standards by constantly adding improvements.
