Toyota to Exhibit on Cooperative ITS at the 23rd ITS World Congress in Melbourne
Tokyo, Japan, September 30, 2016―Toyota Motor Corporation will be exhibiting at the 23rd Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)1 World Congress (hosted by ITS Australia), which will be held from October 10 to 14 in Melbourne, Australia.
The primary theme of the Congress this time is, "ITS―Enhancing Liveable Cities and Communities", where the aim is to explore new value-added features and services such as interconnected cars, automated driving technologies, smart cities, and new urban mobility means.
Toyota will be showcasing its extensive work that is targeted towards the creation of a smart mobility society that links people, cars, and cities. The Toyota booth will present on cooperative ITS, an important safety technology that strives toward the goal of achieving zero traffic fatalities―the ultimate goal of the future mobility society.
Specifically, Toyota will present on its philosophy towards safety, and will exhibit Toyota's current cooperative ITS services which extends into the future. With the use of the experiences zone which showcases virtual reality (VR) and a driving simulator, Toyota hopes to introduce the use of its potential services which it has in mind for the future. Toyota will also display the latest technical trends, such as initiatives in Japan and elsewhere, toward the popularization and development of cooperative ITS for the future.
In October 2015, Toyota had began installing the ITS Connect2―a global frontrunner in terms safe driving support system―in some of its vehicles that are sold in Japan. ITS Connect comprises of a range of alert and warning features, which are key aspects of cooperative ITS, including the Right Turn Collision Caution and Emergency Vehicle Proximity Notification systems, which are based on vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) bidirectional communication. At the upcoming ITS World Congress, Toyota will also present on the verified status of accident reduction effects of the systems that have been commercialized.
The ITS World Congress is the world's largest ITS-related international conference. Held annually in Europe, the Asia-Pacific, and the Americas on a rotating basis, the congress invites ITS developers (governments, research bodies, and commercial enterprises) from a wide range of countries and regions to showcase their latest ITS research findings and products through information sessions (including technical paper presentations), exhibitions, and test drives.
Toyota plans to continue carrying out initiatives steadily and effectively toward the promotion and popularization of cooperative ITS in order to help in the early realization of a safe mobility society.
