Launched in February 1992, the tenth-generation Corona came in two body types: a 4-door sedan and a 5-door hatchback(liftback). The 4-door sedan included a full-time 4-wheel-drive (4WD) version that could be driven safely even on snow-covered roads. Compared to the previous model, the Corona's wheelbase, length, and height were expanded by 55 mm, 80 mm, and 40 mm, respectively. The space around its front and rear seats was expanded, and its luggage space became the largest in class. The low doorsteps allowed for easier entry and exit. The engines, except for the 2-liter naturally aspirated 76 PS diesel, were all scissors-gear type "high-mecha" twin-cam 16-valve engines, including 1,600 cc 105 PS, 1,800 cc 125 PS, and 2,000 cc 140 PS (135 PS with 4WD models) units.
Plant Tsutsumi plant, Central Motor Co.,Ltd. [to Dec. 1994]
The "corona" is the ring of pearly light around the sun. The name was apt for this robust and approachable family car.
