The fourth-generation Lexus GS lineup (the second-generation for the Japanese market) was announced in January 2012, including the redesigned GS 350, the newly developed GS 250, and the second-generation GS 450h hybrid (to be launched in March). The GS is Lexus's second most luxurious line after the flagship LS.

The new GS line features a spindle grille that symbolizes the next-generation of Lexus, giving it a uniquely progressive and sophisticated look. The styling of the new GS substantially extends the design theme adopted for the CT series in January 2011. The interior design is stylish as well as practical, featuring such equipment as a high-resolution 12.3-inch wide display (the world's largest in a mass-production vehicle), the Remote Touch pointer that provides a mouse-like interface, and an analogue clock with self-luminous hands that is the first in a Lexus.

The redesigned GS 350 is fitted with the 3.5-liter V6 2GR-FSE engine. While continuing to adopt the D-4S twin fuel injection system to improve the engine output, fuel efficiency, and environmental performance, the GS 350 also features greater body rigidity to enable an exhilarating ride. The F Sport version is equipped with the newly developed Lexus Dynamic Handling (LDH) system, which controls front as well as rear steering angles to achieve improved steering responsiveness and deliver stable performance during high-speed driving.
