The Crown Royal series (4-door hardtop) was fully remodeled in August 1995, and the Crown 4-door sedan followed suit in December. Starting with this model generation, the perimeter frame that had long been associated with the Crown was no longer used, adopting instead the Majesta's monocoque body and the platform of the seventh-generation Mark II. As a result, the wheelbase was extended and the cabin became more spacious, and the weight was reduced by more than 100 kg.

All three gasoline engines were inline 6-cylinder DOHC 24-valve units (2-liter 135 PS, 2.5-liter 180 PS, and VVT-i 3-liter 220 PS), and a 2.4-liter 97 PS turbo diesel engine was also available. The 4-door pillared hardtop body was discontinued with this model generation, to be replaced with a more conventional sedan design with sash doors.
