The engine lineup consisted of three DOHC 24-valve V6 units, including 3.5-liter (2GR-FSE), 3-liter (3GR-FSE), and 2.5-liter (4GR-FSE) engines that produced 232 kW (315 PS), 188 kW (256 PS), and 149 kW (203 PS), respectively. The transmission was a 6-speed automatic Super ECT. The drivetrain configuration was either front-engine, rear-wheel-drive or 4-wheel-drive. The hybrid model's rear-wheel-drive hybrid system with a two-stage motor speed reduction device provided the driving performance of a 4.5-liter vehicle with the low fuel consumption of a 2.0-liter vehicle. The hybrid model also featured the Finegraphic Meter, which was a TFT (thin film transistor) liquid crystal display (LCD) that could present the driving data to the driver with outstanding clarity.
